Agriculture society wants compensation fund for victims of praedial larceny
The Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) is lobbying the government to establish a compensation fund for farmers who are victims of praedial larceny.
JAS president, Senator Norman Grant, informed The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre of the association’s efforts as he commended the police for appointing a new praedial larceny prevention officer.
He says discussions have already started with the Justice Minister, Senator Mark Golding, on the establishment of the compensation fund.
However, he did not disclose how advanced those discussions are.
Meanwhile Senator Grant says the JAS is lobbying for praedial larceny offences to be covered under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
